MICROBLADING, MICROSHADING, OMBRE POWDER AND NANOBLADING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Microblading, Microshading, Ombre Powder and Nanoblading are all a
semi-permanent tattoo that enhances your brows with either hair-like
strokes or a soft powder effect with the use of a hand held tool.
This tool implants pigment into the basal layer (bottom layer) of the
epidermis.
Here are some other common questions:
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
The results of these semi-permanent procedures vary by client and can
last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Various factors can determine how
well the pigment will retain – such as the client’s skin-type,
immediate aftercare, the client’s skin care regimen and medical
history.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE?
One common misconception about semi-permanent brows is that it is only
for individuals that have severe hair loss. Although these clients can
benefit from the service immensely, anyone looking to add depth and color will find great value in semi-permanent brows. It’s also a great choice for those wanting to correct their brow shape after years of follicle damage from various epilation methods.
WHY IS IT ONLY SEMI-PERMANENT?
Traditional methods of permanent makeup consists of implanting pigment to the dermis. The dermis is live skin made up of blood vessels, sebaceous glands, sweat glands and nerves. Since this layer of skin is alive, it usually retains pigments permanently. In microblading/ombre powder, pigment is deposited right above the dermis into the basal layer of the epidermis. Because the cells of the basal layer continuously divide, the pigment is then broken down and eventually migrates to the surface causing the pigment to fade away.
WHAT IS THE MAINTENANCE?
A mandatory 4-8 week touch up is required to ensure the skin has retained the pigment and/or to insert additional strokes/pigment for a fuller look. We recommend that clients schedule a touch-up visit once a year to maintain the shape and ensure pigment retention.
HOW LONG IS THE PROCEDURE?
Appointments are booked for two hours and very rarely may take longer than two hours.
WILL I BE IN PAIN?
A topical numbing cream is used which decreases the pain level up to 50%. Every client is different, but the most common feedback is that the procedure is more uncomfortable than painful.
CAN I GET A TOUCH UP IF SOMEONE ELSE DID MY INITIAL SEMI-PERMANENT SESSION?
Yes. There is an additional $100 charge for touch ups of others work. If your original session was more thanone year prior, you will need to start your semi-permanent brow journey over.
BEFORE AND AFTER CARE
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
To prevent any complications related to your well-being and to ensure your skin is in the best possible condition, please review the suggestions and requirements below:
-
Avoid waxing or tinting three days before the procedure
-
Avoid all alcohol and caffeine 24 hrs before the procedure to prevent excessive bleeding
-
Avoid taking blood thinners like aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, or ibuprofen 48 hours before procedure
-
No Botox/Filler treatments should be done two - three weeks prior to the procedure
-
No chemical peels 60 days before or after the procedure
-
No Retinols/Retin-A, anti-aging/acne creams, or serums containing acids as these will fade brows prematurely if used during the first 30 days in your healing process
AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT
Post-care is very important to the appearance and longevity of your new eyebrows. In the first seven days after your procedure do not let any lotion, or makeup touch your eyebrow area. It is ok to wash the eyebrow area very gently with a mild soap.
During your healing post-care, make sure your hands are completely clean while gently applying the post-care ointment (A&D ointment, grape seed oil or Aquaphor) with a cotton swab in the morning and at night.
The following must be avoided 3-5 days post procedure:
-
Increased sweating
-
Practicing sports
-
Swimming
-
Hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi
-
Sun tanning or salon tanning
-
UV/UVA Rays or chemicals as they have been known to cause a shift in color and premature fading
-
Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic acid on the face or neck
-
Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment
-
Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris
-
Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab.
* Note that itching and flaking may appear during the first seven-ten days post procedure. However, experience has shown that by following these after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.
If you have any unexpected problems with the healing of the skin, please contact us immediately, to discuss further instructions.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING HEALING
HEALING
Healed eyebrows are beautiful and natural, but it takes time to get to those results. Following the aftercare instructions is essential to the healing process. Please note everyone heals differently so the timeline below is just a general guideline.
DAY 1
-
Eyebrows look amazing immediately after appointment
-
Pigment gradually gets darker throughout the first day
WEEK 1:
-
Pigment reaches darkest level on day two
-
Light scabbing will develop
WEEK 2:
-
Scabbing will begin to peel and flake off
WEEK 3:
-
Pigment in skin continues to oxidize and pigment will begin to reappear in color intended from the beginning
WEEK 4-6:
-
Eyebrows fully healed and ready to undergo the finishing effects of the touch-up appointment
-
Brow enhancement is complete, leaving you with beautiful natural eyebrows
*Note that because of natural skin regeneration, after recovery period (peeling), brows might appear lighter than original. This might give you the impression that color is fading too quickly. Often even with proper care, customer may develop bald spots or lose original hair strokes which make brows look uneven. This is completely normal and why we HIGHLY RECOMMEND a touch up after 4-8 weeks.
